DESCRIPTION:Click for Latest Location Information: http://semtechbizdc2011.semanticweb.com/sessionPop.cfm?confid=64&proposalid=4226\nThis talk describes initial work and goals to add semantics to the geospatial domain. We will describe a new NSF INTEROP project organized by the Spatial Ontology Community of Practice (SOCoP, www.socop.org). Geospatial data give location information for geographic features and are important in many applications. Progress has been made by initiatives such as the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and Geospatial One-Stop to distribute geospatial data. To enable further collaboration, however, it is necessary to address the semantic problems that result from different community views. An initial INTEROP Network is based on the existing SOCoP network that has a core group of active participants from academia, government, and industry. We now want to broaden the Network to cover various geospatial domains and include more participants. One of the purposes of this talk is to include a broader semantic community.
\n
Introduce geospatial data\n
Semantic problems for geospatial data\n
Create a broad Network of interested participants\n
Work on technologies to help geospatial semantic interoperability
